Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei has noted that efforts should be made to turn Iran into a medical hub in the Muslim world and Southwest Asia.
In a directive to the heads of the Executive, Judiciary and Legislative branches and the Expediency Council on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei outlined the general health care policies of the country, following consultations with members of the Expediency Council.
The Leader called for adopting state-of-the-art medical and health plans, reducing the threats to public wellbeing and promoting the health standards with the aim of attaining the first rank in Southwest Asia.
The directive stated that the research and education sectors must offer services based on Islamic humanitarian values, underlining the need to improve mental health of the society.
Ayatollah Khamenei also stated that the country should manufacture medical devices and equipment that are up to international standards.
The Leader stressed that Iranians from all walks of life must have healthy nutrition, clean air, sports equipment and standard hygiene products.
The outlined policies also include the allocation of subsidies to the health sector as well as providing special financial aid to the needy.
Iran has gained significant achievements in the health sector in recent years despite unilateral sanctions over its nuclear energy program.
