Mozambican Authorities on Sunday confirmed 16 cases of dengue fever in the country’s north.
Dengue fever, also known as breakbone fever, causes fever and joint pains.
The disease broke out in Pemba, capital city of the northern Cabo Delgado Province, while another nine suspicious cases were also reported there.
Authorities attributed the outbreak of the mosquito-borne tropical disease to the heavy rains in the province in recent months .
The country’s Health Ministry said that the situation was under control and it has sent medical staff to eliminate the vectors of the disease.
Report says that the infectious tropical disease was last confirmed in Cabo Delgado Province in the 1970s
