Ronaldo to miss Copa del Rey final
Portuguese striker Cristiano Ronaldo has suffered an injury in his left hamstring and is likely to miss the Copa del Rey final and is a major doubt for the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals
This comes as a serious blow to Real Madrid who have relied on the charismatic forward all season.
Ronaldo limped off in the closing stages of his side’s Champions League quarter-final first leg win over Borussia Dortmund.
He subsequently was sidelined in the 4-0 win over Real Sociedad at Anoeta and was an unused substitute in the second leg game against Jurgen Klopp’s side. It is now confirmed that the 29-year-old has an injury to his left hamstring, and is reportedly set to miss around two weeks of action, which would rule him out of the crucial Clasico.
“Tests have detected that Cristiano Ronaldo has a muscular injury to his left hamstring. Pending developments,” said a Real Madrid statement.
Madrid survived a scare at the Westfalenstadion without Ronaldo to book a ticket to the semi-finals of the Champions League, but the former Manchester United man is a doubt for the first leg of the last four.
Madrid could face city rivals Atletico Madrid, Chelsea or reigning European champions Bayern Munich in the semi-finals.
