The United States and European governments have to assume responsibility for the ongoing crisis in Ukraine, an analyst tells Press TV in an interview.
“American and European officials have to look in the mirror at their own actions of what they did between November and February, with respect to the disorder in Kiev,” James Jatras said.
He underscored “blatant outside interference” for the prevailing uncontrollable instability in Ukraine.
“I don’t think we can undermine the extent of which that has damaged the structural integrity of the Ukrainian state,” said Jatras.
He said all parties involved in the Ukrainian crisis need to return to the negotiating table in a bid to “put the Ukrainian Humpty Dumpty back together again.”
“Instead of seeing this fracturing of the country, what we need is a restoration of constitutional government,” he said.
Jatras said an important issue would be to avert a “collapse of the Ukrainian state” through talks and by achieving “some kind of a balance both internationally and domestically in Ukraine.”
On Tuesday, Ukraine lawmakers engaged in a fistfight following a sharp disagreement that emerged between opposing factions over events in the east of the country.
The brawl came after pro-Russia activists briefly occupied government buildings in several Ukrainian cities on Monday.
The protesters in Kharkiv declared independence from Kiev following a similar move by pro-Russians in Ukraine’s eastern city of Donetsk earlier on the day.
The demonstrations gained momentum after Crimea declared independence from Ukraine and formally applied to become part of the Russian Federation following a referendum on March 16, in which nearly 97 percent of the participants said yes to union with Russia.
