The
Israeli regime, persistently refusing to join international treaties on
the prohibition of nuclear weapons, enjoys full freedom of action in
developing nuclear arms due to US backing, an analyst tells Press TV.
“The Israelis have a free pass for their nuclear weapons and this is because of domestic politics in the United States,” Gareth Porter said. The analyst ruled out the possibility of the Zionist regime’s nuclear weapons being put under international inspections.
“This is a very distant idea. It is simply not in the cards for the period of time,” said Porter.Tel Aviv, widely believed to be the only possessor of nuclear arms in the Middle East, reportedly maintains between 200 and 400 atomic warheads.
In its Yearbook 2012, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said that Israel possesses at least 80 “highly operational” nuclear warheads.Furthermore, the Israeli regime has never allowed any inspections of its nuclear facilities and continues to defy international calls to join the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT).
The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) has also failed to reflect international concerns about Israel’s nuclear arsenal.
Israel already receives billions of dollars from the United States each year.
Under an existing 10-year aid agreement signed in 2007, USD 30 billion of American taxpayers’ money is flowing to Israel.
