Unknown gunmen have stormed a viewing center in Nigeria's northeastern town of Potiskum, killing two people and leaving several others wounded.
The incident occurred on Wednesday when the gunmen in a car opened fire outside the packed viewing center, which was showing two quarter-final Champions League matches, police said on Thursday.

Yobe State police commissioner Sanusi Rufa'I said one person was killed instantly while another died later at the hospital. He also said several others were injured, some critically.

Witnesses said the center was full at the time of the attack, with those who could not get a space inside hanging around the windows to watch the second-leg games.

There was no claim of responsibility for the attacks, but officials often blame Boko Haram fighters for the assaults.

Nigeria, the most populous country in Africa, has been rocked by growing violence in recent years.
On May 15, 2013, the Nigerian army launched an offensive against the group a day after President Goodluck Jonathan declared a state of emergency in the three northeastern states of Borno, Yobe, and Adamawa.
Boko Haram -- whose name means “Western education is forbidden” -- says its goal is to overthrow the Nigerian government.
